Plusieurs sautent le petit déjeuner faute de temps ou d’appétit ! Pourtant, ce premier repas est celui qui nous permet de combler le plus facilement nos besoins en fibres. Ce n’est pas une surprise, la population québécoise atteint rarement l’apport quotidien recommandé, soit entre 21 et 38 grammes selon l’âge et le sexe. On serait gagnant en les intégrant davantage à notre alimentation. Elles ont plusieurs bienfaits sur la santé et contribuent au sentiment de satiété. Il y a deux types de fibres, les solubles et les insolubles. Les fibres solubles permettent un meilleur contrôle de la glycémie en répartissant dans le temps l’arrivée des glucides dans le sang ce qui permettrait de diminuer les risques de diabète de type II. De plus, elles abaissent le cholestérol sanguin. Les fibres insolubles ont pour rôle d’accélérer le transit des aliments dans le tube digestif. Can you believe it? Many people choose to skip breakfast due to a lack of time or appetite! And yet, the first meal of the day is the one that allows us to meet our fibre requirements most easily. It therefore comes as no surprise to learn that the population of Quebec rarely reaches the recommended daily intake of fibre—from 21 to 38 grams, depending on age and gender. We would all do well to get more fibre in our diet. Fibre has several health benefits and contributes to a feeling of fullness. There are two types of fibre, soluble and insoluble. Soluble fibre can help better control blood sugar levels by slowing the absorption of carbohydrates in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of Type II diabetes. It also helps lower blood cholesterol levels. Insoluble fibre plays a role in accelerating the passage of food through the digestive tract by promoting intestinal regularity and helping to prevent or relieve constipation.
Here's some good news: you can start filling up on fibre at breakfast! Cereal products, fruits, seeds, and nuts all contain fibre. For example, a breakfast consisting of just one slice of Campagnolo 100% Whole Wheat Bread, topped with 30 ml (2 tbsp) of ricotta, some thin slices of pear, and 15 ml (1 tbsp) of chopped almonds will provide you with 7 grams of fibre, starting you on your way to the recommended daily intake.
